Weekend round up

What a fantastic weekend for everyone in AB1GK family. It was celebration time this Sunday when Marko Johansson and his Malmo FF beat Sirius at home and secured Swedish Allsvenskan title.

It has been a crazy season for 22-year Marko, who was on loan to Mjallby when the league started back in June. With eleven games played in the season, he decided to return to Malmo and fight for his spot between the sticks, earning his first league start in August at home vs Orebro. In the meantime he collected 12 appearances in the league and four more in Europa League, establishing himself as Malmo’s first choice on the goal.

We are proud that, since he moved back to Malmo, Marko Johansson has been part of AB1GK family, wearing our AB1 Impact Uno Negative Pro Icon gloves. Great work, Marko!

After an unlucky loss at Hillsborough in the mid-week action, AFC Bournemouth is back on winning tracks. This time the Cherries were captained by our Asmir Begović, who was very good in 3-1 win away to Birmingham City. Bournemouth is now just two points behind Reading on the top of the table.

Speaking about Reading, they lost their second match in a row, this time to Stoke City. Despite the visitors winning 3-0, it was anything but walk in the park for the Potters. Angus Gunn had a fantastic game, despite being under constant pressure from the hosts, recording five saves.

Ryan Allsop and his Wycombe Wanderers lost 2-0 away to Nottingham Forest, while Max O’Leary was on the bench for Bristol City in their away win at Cardiff City (1-0).

This weekend was reserved for FA Cup First Round Proper, where one of the biggest upsets was Chorley’s win over Wigan Athletic at DW Stadium. The winners of 2013 FA Cup, currently on the bottom of the League One, had two goals lead at the half-time, but our Matthew Urwin and his teammates turned the things around and won in the extra time. Chorley FC currently competes in the National League North, the sixth tier of English football, three tiers below Wigan.

Chris Maxwell kept a clean sheet in Blackpool’s 3-0 win over Eastbourne Borough. Ashley Maynard Brewer was on the goal for his Charlton Athletic, who lost to Plymouth Argyle 1-0. South Shields, who currently play in the Northern Premier League North division, the seventh tier of English football, lost to League Two side Cheltenham Town.

Malmo won the title in Sweden, but our Budimir Janošević had something to celebrate this weekend as well. Serbian goalkeeper was once again unbeaten, keeping the clean sheet in Stockholm’s Twin Derby – his AIK defeated city rivals Djurgarden 1-0.

Virtus Entella was down to ten men for last half an hour of the Lecce game and lost 5-1, despite Daniele Borra collecting nine saves. Brescia, on the other hand, defeated Cosenza away (2-1) with our new signing Slovenian Matic Kotnik on the bench.
