Weekend round up

Asmir Begović and AFC Bournemouth moved back into the Championship play-off places after an important 1-0 win against Watford at home on Saturday. Arnaut Danjuma scored the only goal of the game to settle the contest in favour of the hosts as both teams finished with ten men. This was also the 15th clean sheet of the season for Asmir.

Despite taking the lead after just 27 seconds, Angus Gunn’s Stoke City lost to second-placed Brentford at the Community Stadium. Jacob Brown had given the Potters a first-minute lead, but second-half goals from Vitaly Janelt and Ivan Toney dashed City’s hopes of securing a win from their first visit to Brentford’s new stadium.

In League One, Chris Maxwell was once again on duty as the Blackpool captain as his side made it three straight wins in a row beating Charlton Athletic away 3-0. In League Two, James Belshaw’s Harrogate Town recorded an important 1-0 at home to Grimsby Town. Southend Utd’s young keeper Harry Seaden replaced Alex Bass at the half time in their clash with Salford City and kept his sheet clean in a goalless draw.

The Swedes were in the cup action this weekend. AIK Stockholm with Budimir Janošević in goal defeated AFC Eskilstuna 4-0, while Oliver Dovin kept a sheet clean for Hammarby at Oskarshamns AIK. The Swedish Cup has been formed out of the group stage, with eight group winners progressing to the quarter-finals. Next week’s Stockholm derby between Hammarby and AIK at Tele2 Arena will decide which of those two undefeated teams will continue their run to the next round.

Vander’s early goal was sufficient for True Bangkok United and Michael Falkesgaard to beat struggling Sukhothai in the Thai League 1 on Sunday. In Luxembourg, Dudelange – with Tim Kips in the goal – dropped two points to Una Strassen in a 1-1 draw but kept their top spot in the league intact.
