Weekend round up

FC Bournemouth’s dreams of reaching the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time in their history ended as they exited the competition at the hands of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton. Asmir Begović was in goal for what turned out to be a one-sided affair in which the Saints won 3-0.

In the League 1 action was AB1’s Chris Maxwell skippering  Blackpool in their 2-0 win at Oxford United. In League Two, James Belshaw’s Harrogate Town hosted Morecambe but unfortunately lost 1-0.

In Scotland, Ryan Fulton was solid in another 1-1 draw by his Hamilton Academical team, this time at home to St. Mirren.

The new season of the League of Ireland Premier Divison has kicked off this weekend for Derry City’s 23-year old Nathan Gartside, who was in goal in a  2-0  reverse to Longford Town but earned himself a first call up for Northern Ireland senior men’s squad in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers next week.

Another new member of the AB1GK family, Albanian international  Alessio Abibi made his full League of Ireland debut for his new Dundalk team in their 1-1 draw at Sligo Rovers.

Another call-up for the national team came this week for our Lucas Fox, who will represent Luxembourg in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. His Jeunesse Esch beat Victoria Rosport 1-0 this weekend.

Adam Federici’s Macarthur FC defeated Western United 2-1 in A-League, while Michael Falkesgaard’s True Bangkok United had no problems beating bottom-side Rayong FC (4-1).

Virtus Entella lost to the Italian Serie B leaders Empoli 1-0. Still, Daniele Borra was highly praised for his performance making seven saves, whilst in Spain, Hedvig Lindahl’s Atletico Madrid lost to Sporting Huelva 1-0.

The AB1GK is proud to announce that Marko Marić has joined our family of goalkeepers this weekend. Born in Vienna, Marko represented Croatia at youth levels while playing for Rapid Vienna, Lechia Gdansk, Hannover 96 and Lillestromn and last season, he made 23 appearances for his current side Houston Dynamo in MLS.

Welcome to the AB1GK family, Marko!
